Panasonic Cycle Technology Co. plans to launch a child seat-type electric bicycle in June that is equipped with a motor that helps push and walk the bicycle while the child is seated.
The bike’s motor assists the rider by moving at a speed of about 3 to 5 km/h when the rider raises the saddle and presses a button within reach, even while the rider holds the handlebars.
The bike is also equipped with a function that prevents it from sliding down a slope of at least 8 degrees for about 10 seconds, even if the rider does not press the button.
An electric bicycle usually weighs about 30 kilograms, and with two toddlers on board the weight can exceed 60 kilograms.
The burden on cyclists while walking while pushing an electric bicycle in shopping areas, parks, pedestrian bridges and other areas where they need to cycle is a problem.
The electric bike will be available in five colors with a suggested retail price of ยฅ183,000.
