A petition seeking to prevent Chugoku Electric Power from restarting operations at the No. 2 reactor of the Shimane nuclear power plant in western Japan has been rejected.
The Matsue Division of the Hiroshima High Court on Wednesday dismissed the petition filed in March 2023 by four residents of Shimane and Tottori prefectures, which are adjacent to each other, saying there is no proven risk of a nuclear accident at the plant .
At issue were the validity of the ground earthquake design basis โ or the assumed level of shaking used as a standard in designing earthquake-resistant structures โ for the reactor and the effectiveness of evacuation plans.
