Fashion with a touch of humor was the result when brand Yoshiokubo teamed up with comedy group Yoshimoto Shinkigeki in Tokyo on Wednesday to present their new designs.
The fashion show took place at the Lumine the Yoshimoto comedy theater in Shinjuku district and was part of Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo, which features around 30 brands from Japan and abroad.
In a typical fashion show, models strut down the runway without any expression on their faces. Designer Yoshio Kubo, 50, whose work has been shown in Paris and Milan, began to wonder if there was a better way to put on a show.
Originally from Osaka Prefecture, a hotbed of comedy, he decided to channel his love of sentimental humor into a collaboration with Yoshimoto Shinkigeki for the current show.
The show began with a skit featuring well-known Yoshimoto comedian Kanpei Hazama at an udon restaurant. Suddenly, models walked onto the stage and into the audience dressed in Yoshiokubo’s newly designed blouson โ which Hazama also wears โ and other outfits.
It was a hit with the public. โWe were able to create a new way to show the brand,โ Kubo said.
