Former Celtics great Ray Allen says ‘distraction’ played a role in Game 4 blowout

Former NBA great Ray Allen is “selfishly” hoping the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks goes all the way — so he can attend Game 7 in Boston on June 23.

The two-time NBA champion watched Game 4 in Tokyo’s Shibuya district, where he was the special guest for Rakuten’s NBA Fest in Japan 2024, before taking the court to conduct a short basketball clinic for kids.

The Mavericks kept their hopes (and Allen’s) of a Game 7 alive by firing on all cylinders at home and routing the Celtics 122-84 in Game 4 to avoid a series sweep. The Celtics, who won their first three games, were trying to capture their first title since 2008, when Allen was one of the legendary franchise’s star players. Game 5 takes place Monday in Boston.
