Hayao Miyazaki, Makoto Shinkai’s animated films, nominated for Golden Globe

Los Angeles (Jiji Press) โ€“ The Japanese films โ€œThe Boy and the Heronโ€ and โ€œSuzumeโ€ were nominated for best animated film at the Golden Globe Awards on Monday.

โ€œThe Boy and the Heron,โ€ directed by Hayao Miyazaki, has already received awards from Los Angeles, New York and Boston film critics. It topped the North America box office during its debut weekend between Friday and Sunday.

Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi was nominated for best original score for his work on โ€œThe Boy and the Heron.โ€

โ€œSuzumeโ€ is directed by Makoto Shinkai. โ€œThe Super Mario Bros. Movie,โ€ released by Nintendo and Universal Studios, was also nominated for best animated film.

Andrew Scott was nominated for best male actor for his role in “All of Us Strangers,” based on a novel by the late Japanese screenwriter Taichi Yamada.

The Golden Globe Awards ceremony is scheduled for January 7.
