The Fisheries Agency has announced an agreement it has reached with Russia on Japan’s fishing quotas for salmon and trout in Russia’s 200 nautical mile zone for this year, after a two-year hiatus.
Although bilateral fisheries negotiations typically take place every year, the two countries have not held such talks in 2022 or 2023 due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The agency said Monday that the two countries agreed on a total fishing quota of 125 tons, fishing cooperation fees of ยฅ25 million to be paid by Japan to Russia and a 36-day fishing period from early June to July 31, all comparable. to the conditions of the 2021 agreement.
The fishing operations will be carried out by a single vessel as part of the Japanese government’s testing operations.
