The Fukuoka District Court on Wednesday rejected a request for a new trial in the 1992 murders of two girls in southwestern Fukuoka Prefecture, for which a death row inmate had been executed.
Thus, the court denied the second request for retrial over the so-called Iizuka incident, in which two primary school students were killed in Iizuka City, Fukuoka. Michitoshi Kuma was found guilty of the murder and executed in 2008 at the age of 70.
The defense will appeal the latest ruling. So far, no decision has been made in Japan to allow a new trial of an already executed convict.
