As Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s government has struggled amid a slush fund scandal involving the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa has supported it on the diplomatic front.
Ahead of the next general election for the House of Representatives, the all-important lower chamber of parliament, some in the LDP hope she will become a candidate to succeed Kishida as party chairman, although it remains to be seen whether the momentum her pushes towards the top position will increase.
From April 26 to Monday, Kamikawa visited Madagascar, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, France, Sri Lanka and Nepal during Japan’s Golden Week.
