Kishida defends the planned rule to revoke the residence permits of foreigners

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said on Wednesday that a proposed rule to revoke permanent residence permits of foreigners would be limited to a few malign cases.

“The planned rule would not affect the vast majority of foreign permanent residents,” Kishida said at a meeting of the Committee on Legal Affairs of the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Diet, the country’s parliament.

The rule was included in a provision of a bill to revise the Law on Immigration Control and Recognition of Refugees and other relevant laws, which includes a plan to abolish the existing technical internship program for foreigners and create a new plan to train foreign workers.
