Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was due to arrive in Seoul on Sunday for bilateral talks with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and Chinese Premier Li Qiang, ahead of their first trilateral summit since 2019.
Kishida told reporters on Sunday before leaving for the South Korean capital that he hoped to use the talks to “exchange candid views and discuss forward-looking practical cooperation” with Yoon and Li.
Noting that โthe situation in the region and within the international community has changed dramaticallyโ in the years since the last trilateral summit, Kishida said the talks come at a turning point in the three countries’ relations.
