Kishida pledges to ‘sincerely’ tackle reform of lawmakers’ allowances

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has vowed to “sincerely address” the issue of renewing research, public relations and housing allowances for lawmakers, based on an agreement between his ruling Liberal Democratic Party and opposition Nippon Ishin no Kai.

“This is an agreement between party leaders,” Kishida, who is simultaneously chairman of the LDP, told reporters at an airport in southern Italy on Saturday. “It’s documented, so it’s very important,”

Kishida was speaking after attending this year’s Group of Seven summit, which lasted three days from Thursday before heading to Switzerland for a peace conference in Ukraine.
