The Bank of Japan must make it clearer that it intends to normalize monetary policy, party leader Toshimitsu Motegi said a week before the central bank meets to decide whether to raise interest rates.
“The BOJ should communicate clearly that it will resolutely continue the normalization of monetary policy,” Motegi, secretary-general of the Liberal Democratic Party, said in Tokyo on Monday.
The comments reflect growing political frustration over the central bank’s cautious stance as ultra-low interest rates weigh on the yen and inflation continues to outpace the BOJ’s target and wage growth.
