Nissan Motor Co. and Panasonic Corp. on Friday launched a service that sends information such as the charging status and location of passenger cars to home appliances, using the Internet of Things (IoT), which connects different devices online.
The companies aim to deepen the link between cars and home appliances to increase the convenience of both companies’ products.
The service includes displaying relevant information on TV screens or in audio through home appliances, such as a lighting fixture, when an electric vehicle has finished charging or appears to be at risk of theft.
The new system will allow family members to share a wider range of information, compared to previous cases where such information was mainly sent to a registered smartphone.
Its use requires Nissan cars and Panasonic home appliances, both compatible with the new service.
Some predict that by 2035, 85% of vehicles sold in the world will be โconnected cars,โ or cars connected to the internet. Nissan hopes to differentiate itself from the competition by expanding services that use home appliances.
