NTT Data Japan Co. has opened a capsule hotel equipped with technology that can analyze guests’ sleep data, in a bid to help food and medical device makers develop products to improve sleep quality.

The hotel, 9h nine hours Shinagawa station sleep lab for men, opened on August 9 and is located opposite Shinagawa Station in Tokyo.

Each of the 70 compartments is equipped with sensors, infrared cameras and microphones to collect data such as how often the guest turns, how often they snore and how long they stop breathing due to sleep apnea. Data is collected on guests who give prior consent and they can receive the results.

NTT Data plans to use the information to collaborate with food and medical device manufacturers to develop products that can improve sleep quality. The company aims to earn ยฅ30 billion in healthcare by 2030.

The NTT Group, which owns buildings equipped with communications facilities in various locations, including urban areas, is considering expanding its hotel business.
