TOKYOSep 6 (Japan News) – Rice shortages are pushing up prices, affecting packaged rice products known for their long shelf life.
JA Zen-Noh (National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Societies) has announced that it will raise the prices of packaged rice sold online and in some supermarkets. Shipments will begin on November 1.
The cost increases are caused by the continued high fuel and commodity prices, combined with the current rice shortage, which has pushed up the price of rough rice.
The price increase is expected to be around 10 to 13% of the recommended retail price. Some products that are no longer profitable will be discontinued.
Sato Foods has also announced that starting in December, the prices of all packaged ‘Sato no Gohan’ rice products will increase.
