Saudi wealth fund is in talks to set up a boxing league, sources say

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) is in talks with multiple boxing stakeholders to set up a league, potentially reshaping the sport’s competitive landscape, people familiar with the matter say.

PIF is looking to invest in a joint venture with a number of stakeholders in the sport that will see more boxing fights, the people said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

A handful of leading promoters, including Matchroom Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions, are involved in the discussions that could result in a deal valuing the new entity between $4 billion and $5 billion, one of the people said. PIF wants to set up a venture bringing together the sport’s main organizers, in which it would take a minority stake, the person added.
