BANGKOK (Jiji Press) – Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has said this year’s Summer Sonic, one of Japan’s biggest music festivals, will also take place in Thailand in August, not just Japan.
Announcing the first Summer Sonic festival to be held outside Japan, Srettha told a news conference on Wednesday that he wants to make Thailand a place where global events are held.
Summer Sonic Bangkok 2024 will take place in the Thai capital from August 24 to 25, featuring more than 20 artists and bands from Thailand and abroad, according to the Prime Minister’s Office. According to the Summer Sonic website, Japanese pop duo Yoasobi is one of the scheduled artists.
The press conference was also attended by Naoki Shimizu, president of Creativeman Productions Co., founder of the annual music festival, and a minister from the Japanese Embassy in Bangkok.
Srettha said he hopes to make Thailand an important place for music circles around the world, emphasizing that his country’s tourism industry will develop thanks to Summer Sonic Bangkok 2024.
