Swimmer Caeleb Dressel prepares to dive into uncharted waters in Paris

Caeleb Dressel knows the days of ‘just swimming’ will never return for the seven-time Olympic gold medalist.

But despite the horrific lows that kept him out of the sport for the better part of a year and his admitted uncertainty over whether he will ever be at his best again, the 27-year-old American, once seen as the successor to Michael Phelps, is ready to test himself again at the Paris Olympics.

“I don’t know what’s possible,” Dressel said after a thrilling U.S. exhibition meet in which he won the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter butterfly to secure a shot at defending two of his three individual titles at the pandemic-postponed Tokyo Olympics.
