Economic Security Minister Sanae Takaichi is stepping up activities ahead of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party’s presidential election, expected to be held in September.
The 63-year-old plans to hold a series of events across the country in July and August, and to publish a book on Monday, the second anniversary of the death of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who backed Takaichi in the LDP’s previous leadership race in 2021.
“I have nothing to say,” Takaichi told reporters with a smile when asked at a press conference on Friday whether she would run in the upcoming election.
