Mirra Andreeva became the youngest Grand Slam semifinalist in 27 years after she upset Aryna Sabalenka at the French Open on Wednesday, a stunner that came after fourth-seeded Elena Rybakina was knocked out by Italy’s Jasmine Paolini.
The 17-year-old Andreeva fought back from a set down against Australian Open champion Sabalenka, who appeared hampered by illness, to win 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-4 and a to set up the final. -four meetings against Paolini.
The Russian is the youngest woman to reach the last four at a Slam event since Martina Hingis at the 1997 US Open, and the youngest at Roland Garros since Hingis the same year.
