TEPCO Chairman. Appointed head of the International Nuclear Operators Authority

Tokyo (Jiji Press) -Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. President Tomoaki Kobayakawa was appointed the new president of the World Association of Nuclear Operators at a general meeting in the United Arab Emirates at the end of September, according to TEPCO.

Kobayakawa became the second Japanese to lead WANO, after the then TEPCO president who took over the position in 1991.

At the general meeting Monday, Kobayakawa said he hopes โ€œTEPCO can contribute to improving safety at power stations around the world,โ€ based on the company’s lessons learned from the March 2011 accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. number 1 in northeastern Japan.

WANO was founded in 1989 with the aim of improving the safety of nuclear power plants in the aftermath of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear accident in the former Soviet Union. The association’s member companies come from more than 30 countries and regions. The next general meeting will take place in Tokyo in 2026.
