The dollar wrecking ball is forcing investors to take cover from exporters

The rising dollar has hurt stocks outside the US, but at least one group will benefit: companies that export to the world’s largest economy.

Those with significant dollar incomes will see a windfall, with the main beneficiaries including major Asian chip makers and European industrial and pharmaceutical companies. The stocks of exporters to the US have already beaten a broad range of non-US companies this year, based on the Goldman Sachs Group indexes.

“Exporters to the US should benefit not only from the currency conversion, but also from the trade benefit,” George Maris, chief investment officer for global equities at Principal Asset Management, said in an interview in London. “They should be able to do that. show significant margin improvements, whether they are European, Japanese or Chinese exporters.”
