Tourists tow morning catch during Seining event in Shizuoka Pref.; City has been organizing event since 2005

ITO, Shizuoka – About 450 participants gathered for a blessing event at Ito Orange Beach in Ito, Shizuoka Prefecture, earlier this month at 6:30 am.

After receiving instructions, the participants dragged the net to the beach and cheered when they saw their catch.

The morning’s harvest included horse mackerel, oval squid, barracuda and gurnard, which were distributed to participants along with bowls of warm miso soup.

“I often go to Izu [in the prefecture] and Ito, but it is the first time I have towed a seine,” said a 47-year-old man from Fujieda prefecture who received a surf bass.

The event – ​​organized by the city, its tourism association and other entities – has been held since 2005 and this year it will be held every Sunday in May and June.
