Donald Trump, who turns 78 in June, has spent decades bypassing and ignoring civil society. During his presidency and the years that followed, he did everything he could to undermine the rule of law. And eventually the law caught up with him.
Prosecutors in New York said he and his co-conspirators fabricated the Trump Organization books to mask payments to former lovers to prevent stories about their rendezvous from derailing his 2016 presidential bid. A jury of Trump’s colleagues (including two lawyers) agreed and found him guilty of criminal fraud on Thursday afternoon.
Trump, predictably, remained unbowed.
