The combined market capitalization of issues listed on the Prime section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange is approaching ¥1 trillion, two years after the market realignment.
Since the shake-up in April 2022, which moved most of the shares from the former First Section of the TSE to the Prime section, the total market capitalization of the new top segment has grown by around 40%, while the number of companies has grown by 10% decreased.
Although the sector is becoming a real top market that investors are looking for, there is still a long way to go before listed companies can complete their management reforms. During the shake-up, the four former sections of the TSE – the First and Second Sections, Jasdaq and Mothers – were realigned into three sections: Prime, Standard and Growth.
