Volunteer activities in full swing in Noto during Golden Week

As Japan is in the middle of Golden Week, volunteer activities are in full swing in areas affected by the January 1 earthquake on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture.

Shortly after the magnitude 7.6 earthquake shook the peninsula, people from outside the area were asked not to participate in disaster relief activities to avoid traffic congestion, with many roads badly damaged by the earthquake.

Disaster-stricken areas have since gradually become accessible again. Some volunteers have begun entering such areas in their own vehicles, prompting local authorities to prepare for an influx of volunteers during the holiday period through Monday.
