After several delays, a large mesh barrier was finally installed on Tuesday at a popular Mount Fuji viewing spot – in front of a supermarket in Fujikawaguchiko, Yamanashi Prefecture – to discourage photo-taking by an ever-growing number of tourists.
While Japan’s most famous landmark can be seen for miles, streams of foreign visitors had flocked to this particular spot where the snow-capped mountain rises majestically into the sky from behind a Lawson story.
These visitors parked illegally, ignoring a no-smoking policy and cramming themselves onto the sidewalk to get the perfect photo. got fed up with the resulting litter, trespasses and traffic violations, prompting the drastic measure.
