A bill has been passed to establish a sex crimes screening system for work involving children

A bill has been passed to establish a sex crimes screening system for work involving children , Parliament on Wednesday passed a bill to create a Japanese version of the British Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), to check whether people who have or are looking for a job that involves contact with children have a criminal record for sexual crimes.

The bill, aimed at preventing sexual crimes against children, was unanimously approved during a plenary meeting of the House of Councilors, the upper house of the Diet, Japan’s parliament. The House of Representatives, the House of Representatives, passed the bill on May 23.

Under the new law, which will come into effect at the earliest in the 2026 budget year, schools, daycare centers and orphanages will be required to check whether employees have data on sexual crimes, and to provide staff training on the prevention of sexual crimes against children.
