Japan Airlines and Toppan said Tuesday they have started a demonstration test of the printer’s clear-screen translation system at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.
The system can automatically translate spoken words into 13 languages โโincluding English and Korean, and quickly display the translated words and sentences on the transparent screen.
The words entered using the keyboard are also displayed.
The system’s bright display allows speakers to talk to each other while seeing each other’s faces.
It is designed to provide quick information to foreign travelers and people with hearing impairments.
The trial will be conducted at the counters of Haneda Airport Terminal 1 through Monday and at Osaka International Airport, also known as Itami Airport, in August.
The two companies will test the system’s accuracy in communication and translation and consider possible applications.
