LONDON — David Lammy, Britain’s shadow foreign secretary for the Labour Party, stressed on Monday that he would strengthen cooperation with Japan if Labour, Britain’s largest opposition party, wins on Thursday.
At a press conference for foreign reporters in London, Lammy also spoke of his desire to visit Japan in the near future if Labour wins the election.
Lammy is strongly expected to be appointed Foreign Secretary if Labour comes to power.
“Our relationship with Japan is huge, hugely important. I hope to go to Japan soon, when we cross the border,” Lammy said.
He also reiterated his support for the Global Combat Air Programme, jointly developed by Japan, Britain and Italy, calling it “phenomenal”.
