CAIRO/JERUSALEM –
Hamas would demand a permanent end to the war in Gaza and an Israeli withdrawal as part of a ceasefire plan, the group’s leader said on Wednesday, dealing an apparent blow to a ceasefire proposal floated by US President Joe Biden had touted last week.
Israel, meanwhile, said there would be no end to fighting amid ceasefire negotiations and launched a new attack on a central part of the Gaza Strip near the last city yet to be stormed by its tanks.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh’s comments appeared to provide the Palestinian militant group’s response to the proposal Biden unveiled last week.
