The International Criminal Court prosecutor said Monday he had requested arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his defense chief and three Hamas leaders for alleged war crimes.
ICC prosecutor Karim Khan said in a statement after more than seven months of war in the Gaza Strip that he had reasonable grounds to believe that the five men “bear criminal responsibility” for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.
He said he had requested an arrest warrant against Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Netanyahu. They have overseen Israel’s offensive against Hamas in Gaza since the Palestinian militant group’s deadly Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
