Tokyo (Jiji Press) โ€“ Japan’s industry and finance ministries said Wednesday they will launch an anti-dumping investigation into Chinese-made graphite electrodes.

Graphite electrodes are used in electric furnaces that melt steel scrap. In February, three Japanese companies โ€“ SEC Carbon Ltd., Tokai Carbon Co. and Nippon Carbon Co. โ€“ filed to impose an anti-dumping duty on graphite electrodes exported from China, claiming they were shipped at unfairly low prices.

In principle, the ministries will complete the investigation within one year. They will decide whether to impose the duty after checking whether the product was imported at dumped prices and whether such imports have damaged related domestic industries.
