TOKYOMay 06 (News On Japan) – A Japanese sake brewery behind the Japanese sake brand ‘BON’ plans to release vintage sake that is more than 10 years old around fall 2024. By aging their sake and labeling it as vintage, the company aims to increase rarity and add value.
BON sake has already received high praise and has fetched prices of several hundred thousand yen outside Japan. With the introduction of a new product priced at 1.1 million yen per bottle, the company aims to compete in the highest luxury price range alongside wines and whiskeys.
This is the first time that the brewery has launched sake as a vintage product. This year they debut ‘BON – Chogin Vintage’, a sake that has been aged since 2012 and carefully stored in the refrigerator. Orders have already been placed by top restaurants and sommeliers, and about 200 bottles, almost all of them, buyers have secured.
Although vintage wines and whiskeys have traded for millions of yen, the price of vintage sake remains relatively low, at several hundred thousand yen. There are still only a few breweries promoting their products to the luxury market.
The debut of โBON โ Chogin Vintageโ marks a bold step for the brewery and represents a fusion of tradition and innovation. As they carve out a niche at the highest echelons of the market, all eyes are on BON, waiting to see how their age-old masterpiece will captivate the palates of connoisseurs around the world.
