The CCTV photo of British Labour Party leader Keir Starmer and his wife Victoria Starmer at a Taylor Swift concert in London has been rightly described by his allies as the “standout moment” of his election campaign. No longer the stiff lawyer in a suit, Starmer seems to have lost years in a tender pose that has been widely shared on social media.
For the first and perhaps only time, Starmer looked like the endearing heir to former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, the photogenic three-time winner of the Labour election.
Photos of the current Labour leader in a football uniform tackling opponents have also been doing the rounds — perhaps to create a more macho atmosphere. Starmer has said he will continue to play five-a-side every week if he is elected prime minister on Thursday. The message is that, as a still-energetic 61-year-old married to a National Health Service worker, he is the man of the hour — soccer, also known as “football,” and the NHS are the joint national religions of the United Kingdom.
