The newly elected governor of Kumamoto Prefecture said he is willing to provide broad support to boost Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) to build its third Japanese chip factory there.
Concerns about groundwater shortages when TSMC’s two plants in the prefecture’s Kikuyo city come into operation have led to discussions about the possibility of tapping unused dam water, Takashi Kimura said in an interview on Saturday.
While Kimura said talks on a third factory have yet to happen, Bloomberg had reported that TSMC is already considering its third Japanese semiconductor factory โ also in Kumamoto โ that will make more advanced chips.
