Police have arrested a 61-year-old hairdresser from the city of Mitaka in western Tokyo on suspicion of theft and assault after a woman alleged he threatened her with a knife in a hotel room and took tens of thousands of yen from her wallet.
The suspect, Masahide Nanba, allegedly approached the victim, a woman in her 20s, near Okubo Park in Kabukicho Ward of Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward and took her sometime between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. on May 27. a nearby hotel.
Once in the hotel room, he allegedly brandished a knife at the victim and tied her up, threatening her, saying, “If you don’t do what I say, I’ll kill you.”
