Saitama police arrest suspect in shooting of taxi driver

Police arrested a 68-year-old man on Friday on suspicion of shooting a taxi driver in Kawaguchi city, Saitama Prefecture, two days earlier.

City resident Yoshiichi Segawa was apprehended at Omiya Station in the neighboring city of Saitama after police identified him through security camera footage as the man who fled the scene after the incident and issued an arrest warrant.

The shooting took place on a street in Kawaguchi on Wednesday around 11:40 p.m.

According to police, Segawa got into a taxi near Akabane Station in Tokyo’s Kita Ward, and as he exited the taxi, threatened the driver with money before firing what appeared to be a gun from the backseat.

The 72-year-old taxi driver suffered serious organ damage and is expected to need at least four weeks to recover. Investigative sources report that the police found a shell casing in the car.
