Social media posts reveal a possible motive for the murder of a probation officer

A man arrested over the murder of his probation officer in Otsu city, Shiga Prefecture, had posted messages on social media last month that police sources said could be interpreted as expressions of dissatisfaction with his probation.

Multiple messages condemning the probation system were found on X, formerly Twitter, posted through an account believed to belong to the suspect, Kohei Iitsuka.

Police in Shiga Prefecture believe Iitsuka, 35, may have carried out a premeditated attack on 60-year-old Hiroshi Shinjo out of dissatisfaction with his probation. Iitsuka was under Shinjo’s supervision after receiving a suspended prison sentence for the convenience store robbery.
