A 51-year-old man arrested earlier this week on suspicion of stabbing a young woman to death in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward is alleged to have lent 18 million yen to the victim, investigative sources said Thursday.
Manabu Wakui was arrested Wednesday for the fatal stabbing of 25-year-old Toshino Hirasawa in front of her apartment. Wakui told investigators that he lent Hirasawa money thinking they would get married, but she did not repay the money.
However, there is no evidence that the two ever had a romantic relationship. The Shinjuku Police Station investigates the murder as a possible one-sided obsession of Wakui.
