Every country faces a multitude of challenges and competing desires for the future. Ideally, we all want to tackle everything. But scarce resources mean that in real life we โโhave to set priorities.
Saying that some things should come first is controversial because it is like saying that many things will not come first. That is why politicians often shy away from explicitly prioritizing certain goals over others, preferring to give the impression that they can do everything.
On a global scale, this approach is anchored in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All countries have signed these commitments to achieve almost everything good you can imagine by 2030.
