A United Nations working group has raised concerns about workplace discrimination and harassment faced by women, non-Japanese, sexual minorities and others in Japan.
While noting โimportant progressโ Japan has made in this area, the group’s report raised concerns about significant challenges in addressing deeply entrenched harmful gender and social norms, such as gender pay gaps and long working hours .
The working group compiled the report after conducting interviews with government, companies, unions and others during a visit to Japan last summer. The report was submitted to the ongoing session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
