Toyota’s sales rise abroad, fall domestically

TOKYOJul 31 (News On Japan) – Toyota Motor Group has announced its sales figures for the first half of this year. While overseas sales reached a record high, domestic sales fell by more than 30% due to repeated problems with certification fraud.

According to Toyota, the group’s total sales from January to June this year were about 5.16 million units, down 4.7% year-on-year.

Foreign sales rose 3.1% to over 4.338 million units, a record high.

Domestic sales, on the other hand, totaled 823,595 units, down 32%.

The decline in domestic sales is attributed to the discovery of certification fraud involving several group companies, which led to the suspension of deliveries of certain models. Also, in April, production of the Prius was temporarily halted due to a recall.
