The opening round of the revival of the Prizefighter boxing tournament will take place next month, with a $1 million prize at stake, organizers said Monday.
Eight fighters will get their first chance to fight their way to a big payday when the four quarterfinals take place at Osaka’s Yamato Arena on July 15. The date and location for the semi-finals and final rounds will be announced later. The participants will all fight in the middleweight class (72.5 kg or less).
The winners in the opening round will receive $150,000 each. The prize for victory increases to $250,000 in the semi-finals and $600,000 in the finals. Each round also includes a bonus that fighters can claim by winning via knockout.
