One of the largest fountains in the world is being built by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government at Odaiba Marine Park in Tokyo’s Minato Ward, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike announced on Friday.

For now, the fountain will be called Odaiba Fountain, but Koike hopes it will become a new tourist attraction in Tokyo Bay. The fountainโ€™s jets will spread out over 250 meters and the water can shoot up to 150 meters into the air. The fountain is expected to be completed by the end of fiscal 2025.

According to the city government, the fountain will be built in the water area of โ€‹โ€‹the park. The fountain’s jets will form a motif of Someiyoshino cherry blossoms, the official flowers of Tokyo. They will glow pink or blue at night. The details of the fountain are currently being worked out and construction is expected to begin in the next fiscal year.

Tokyo hopes the new fountain will attract both domestic and foreign tourists. โ€œIt will become a new landmark and brighten up the areaโ€™s appeal, creating a vibrant atmosphere,โ€ Koike said at a regular news conference on Friday.
