Japanese convenience store chain 7-Eleven’s curry bread has been certified by Guinness World Records as the best-selling freshly made curry bread by volume in 2023, the chain’s operator, Seven-Eleven Japan, announced on Thursday.
Of the bread baked in the store, 76,987,667 pieces were sold.
The company launched the item in 2021. The product is prepared by wrapping curry roux made from more than 30 kinds of spices with dough covered with breadcrumbs exclusively for the bread and baked in store kitchens. It sells for ยฅ160 per piece.
In honor of the Guinness recognition, 7-Eleven is hosting a discount sale on the bread from Wednesday through August 11.
“We want people to rediscover our products through this recognition,” a Seven-Eleven official said. The company plans to expand its line of prepared food products in-store, as demand for them is high.
