India is investigating the business practices of US streaming giant Netflix’s local affiliates, including allegations of visa violations and racial discrimination, according to a government email to a former executive.
Details of Indiaโs investigation are contained in a July 20 email seen by Reuters. The email was written by a home ministry official to Nandini Mehta, Netflixโs former head of corporate and legal affairs for India. Mehta left the company in 2020.
โThis relates to concerns over visa and tax violations related to Netflixโs business practices in India,โ wrote Indian official Deepak Yadav of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) of the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi.
