TOKYONov 08 (News On Japan) – Nissan Motor Co. has announced it will cut 9,000 jobs worldwide in response to declining business performance.
In its interim earnings report for the April-September period, Nissan reported a 90.2% decline in operating profit to 32.9 billion yen compared to the same period last year, while net profit, which reflects final profits, fell 93.5% fell to 19.2 billion yen.
The decline in performance was partly attributed to a decline in sales in North America and China.
In light of deteriorating business conditions, Nissan has stated that it will reduce its global workforce by 9,000 employees and cut production capacity by 20%.
In addition, President Uchida has announced that starting this month, at least temporarily, he will forfeit half his salary.
