Mount Fuji begins first official climbing season since introduction of measures to combat overcrowding during inclement weather

The Yomiuri Shimbun

A family of climbers appears disappointed because they could not see the sunrise due to bad weather conditions at the Seventh Station of Mount Fuji on Monday, the opening day of the Yoshida Trail on the Yamanashi Prefecture side. The prefecture has introduced restrictions to prevent overcrowding and ‘bullet climbing’, where the ascent is done at night. During the official climbing season until September 10, the prefecture limits the number of people passing through a temporary gate to 4,000 per day, with a fee of ยฅ2,000 per person.
