Four public hospitals in the earthquake-hit Okunoto area of central Japan suffered a combined loss of more than ¥1.2 billion in fiscal 2023, sources said on Tuesday.
The Okunoto area, the northern tip of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, was hit particularly hard by the 7.6-magnitude earthquake that struck the peninsula on January 1.
Hospitals are expected to remain in the red due to local depopulation caused by the disaster. The prefecture faces the urgent task of maintaining community health care while rebuilding after the disaster.
